DKI GOVERNOR HANDED OVER AQUATEC FLOATING MARINE CAGE IN THE THOUSAND ISLANDS

The arrival of the DKI Jakarta Governor, H. Anies Rasyid Baswedan, Ph.D, at the Thousand Islands on Saturday 11 November 2017 is none other than for the purpose of handing over the help in the form of Aquatec HDPE floating marine cage to the fish cultivators in Thousand Islands.

In his speech, he talked about the importance of advancing the economy of Thousand Islands, especially in the marine and fishery sector.

The handing over of Aquatec floating marine cage is a program by the Division of Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) of DKI Jakarta for the fish cultivators in Thousand Islands. The Aquatec marine cages were handed over by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, H. Anies Baswedan, Ph.D, to the Regent of Thousand Islands, Drs. Irmansyah, M.Sc, accompanied by the Head of the Division of Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture of DKI Jakarta Province.

Forty-six units of Aquatec floating marine cage were distributed among seven cultivator groups within the administrative villages of Panggang Island, Kelapa Island, and Tidung Island. The size of each Aquatec floating marine cage was made of four holes in the size of 3m x 3m with a number of floating guard houses.

The fish seed distribution in Aquatec floating marine cage was done symbolically. Those fish seeds were the help given to the cultivators aside from the Aquatec marine cages. Usually, a single marine cage hole can be filled with 250 fish seeds with a size of 7cm.

Aside from the handing over of marine cage and the symbolical seed distribution event, they also had discussions on the Aquatec marine cage itself. This proves that Aquatec floating marine cage, which is made of an environmentally friendly material, HDPE, has a trusted quality and sturdy structure that give a sense of safety and comfort when performing activities on top of the marine cage.

In addition, the Regent of Thousand Islands, Drs. Irmansyah, M.Sc, accompanied by the Head of the Division, performed tests of feasibility, quality, and specification of the tools and facilities of the Aquatec floating marine cages from the said KPKP Division, in order to ensure the physical condition of the floating marine cages .

Currently, there are 20 groups of fish cultivator groups in Thousand Islands, with each group having approximately 10 members. Each group are proficient in grouper fish cultivation, with a harvest yield of each group of 300 kg per 6 months. The total harvest yield of grouper fish in Thousand Islands has now reached 12 tons each year, with a value of approximately IDR 3 billion per year.

It is expected that with the distribution of these floating marine cages, the business of the cultivators can be further improved. Fish cultivation business has promising prospect to improve the economical welfare of the people of Thousand Islands. The use of Aquatec floating marine cages can push the people to do sustainable fish cultivation expansion, in order to become independent business people.
